Watchin' the Fishies

I like taking her to aquariums, because (unlike zoos), I can tell she likes to watch the different lights and fish. Here we are in the Denver Downtown Museum.

Milestones reached today: first word-- "Eh-ee" (for Ellie). Also saying "Ma-ma" and "Dah-dee" and we THINK they might be meaningful...but not quite sure.
Also: waved bye-bye!

Fuzz-head

I took this picture to show Tia Anna the shorts she sent being worn (quite cute-ly).

The Little Princess

We know how to treat princesses on desert hikes. Sunscreen, hat, Sherpa bearer, parasol carrier, check.

Her shirt said "What baby wants, baby gets," with a crown on it. How appropriate.

PS- she's 9 months old today!

Commerce Little Guys

We are enjoying a company retreat of sorts in Denver, CO with the Eastern US branch of Ryan's company, Commerce Guys. Many of the other guys have brought their wives and infants, and we're really enjoying spending time together. The three little girls are Alaise (8 mos-- 1 month younger than ours), and Ellie (4 mos). It's SO fun to watch them interact-- they get so excited! Eowyn's the only mobile one, so I have to watch like a hawk to make sure she doesn't bowl the others over in her excitement. She also consistently calls baby Ellie "Eh-ee," which is perhaps her first word... She's started saying "Dah-dee" and "Ma-ma-ma" consistently the past few days, too, but we can't tell if she's using them to mean us or not.

On Top of the Mountain

It was quite windy up on top of Mt. Evans! So... we bundled up in a borrowed hoodie and a bathrobe from our rental house. People were very friendly to us-- my theory is that they figured we MUST have a sense of humor. And I guess we do. :)

At the Wooden Spoon

And she is going, going, going...

...GONE!

This just before we loaded up from Jackson, MI, and drove to Detroit, then flew out to Denver!

Moving Day!

I guess moving left a funny taste in her mouth...

Family on the Pier

Carseat... Again.

This is where Eowyn's been spending more hours than she'd like.

Beach Babe

Her first reaction this time was apprehension at the (noise of) the waves.

She found comfort in grasping Daddy's face-mask tightly.

Mommy gradually took her in deeper in the water, which she preferred to being in the waves washing up on the shore, and she clearly relaxed-- enough to fall asleep! I think she saw the fish around us; it looked like she was following them with her eyes.

Give Mama Kisses!

Showing off her trick...

And she'll even kiss Poppy!

When Life Gives You Lemons...

Eat 'em! She liked it, and we liked her faces... and no, we don't usually give her lemons, but this one piece did create fun for all... heheheh...

Object Denied

What happens when Eowyn doesn't get what she really really really likes.

I theorize that her attachment to the object denied can be measured by how long she inhales before screaming.

Emily & Jonathan's Wedding

I love her summer sandals-- bright green and hot pink with pink flowers-- they're foam and stay on her feet rather well. So when Aunt Val gave Eowyn and green-and-pink dress for her early birthday present, I thought it was a match made in heaven. She looked super-darling in her outfit! And we, her dutiful parents, tried to clean up enough to be worthy of carrying her around.

She Loves Ducks

I'll betcha her first word's gonna be "pato" or "duck," NOT Ma-ma or Da-ddy... She always goes for her duck toys ... I think because they fit so perfectly in her little mouth!

It Cheeps!

We were playing together this afternoon, and Eowyn picked up this little chick, a gift from my grandma (Mama Lulu). It cheeps quite realistically... I never can figure out how, but Eowyn did! I loved getting to see the delighted expression on her face! She'd stare at it, then at me, and grin so happily!

Sunday Places to Go

Here's our little crawler getting around our friends Blythe & Joseph's home, where we enjoyed a yummy Mexican-themed Sunday dinner, complete with home-made strawberry ice cream, made from the berries we picked!! Look how well she crawls now!

First Strawberry

We went strawberry picking at Joe Hubers Farm with our friends Laura G. & Phil M. (they're cute-ly dating =D). Babies technically shouldn't be fed strawberries until they're 12 mos for some reason, so we didn't try to feed her any, but Ryan & I decided that if she went for them, we wouldn't try to stop her. She actually was WAY more interested in the dandelions (Mommy fished one entire head out of her mouth and got puked on in thanks), the straw and the leaves. Finally, a few minutes before we left, she grabbed a berry and put it in her mouth. Daddy caught it on film and on camera (video to be uploaded soon). She really liked the juice, but didn't much like the berry itself... probably because she popped the green part in first. Silly girl.

Feeding Herself

I put pieces of red potato and cabbage-- both steamed and lightly lacto-fermented-- on her tray to let her try and feed herself. It was a night of milestones-- she actually ate a large amount of food this way, AND chowed down on meat for the first time!! My friend Blythe suggested mixing it (ground lamb & beef, broiled... yum) into fruit, because before she'd just spit it out. It worked!

Cute Lil Coffee Addict

One of those expressions you can't stop laughing at...

"Hey! I'm cute! SO what!?"

Note the coffee stain down her front... this from her grabbing my cruiser cup and gulping a little too greedily. She loves the stuff-- unsweetened and strong, with plenty of creamy milk. That's her mama's girl!

I LOVE this outfit on her! It's really too small... I just couldn't quite put it away. After today I will, I promise. I actually gave it as a baby gift to my cousin Sofia when she was born, and then it was handed down to Eowyn when Sofi outgrew it. Hehehhe I guess I'd better make sure I like all the outfits I give Sofie!

Eowyn can give "kisses" now! Yesterday was the first time she showed us she really knows what it means. I say in Spanish "Give me a kiss!" and she leans in, mouth wide open, then after she touches your cheek with her well-moistened mouth, she leans back and grins. And wants to do it again and again and again! Soooo precious!
