Mommy, my little friend Hannah, our neighbor 'Miss Nicole' and I went to the Fall Festival at the seminary again this year. The theme was Narnia, complete with jousting, desserts, inflatable bounce castles (my favorite), live music, face painting (another hit with me), and fun crafts. We met up with Uncle Mike and lots of friends from church. I stayed up late and got to see horsies!

New Bike!

Mommy got her anniversary present early, and I LOVE it! It's a bike, with a seat up front for me! I helped pick out the bell (it's a flower for 4 years of marriage), and I love to ride it. The first time we went riding I cried when we got home. I love riding and ask to go "on bike" every day. I talk about my purple helmet a lot.

I beckon to folks very appealingly these days, cocking my head and inviting "You comin'?" while putting my little hand toward them. When that fails, I'm not above coming up, grabbing a hand or a shirt or a leg and pulling towards where I want my people to go. I get very excited when told we are going somewhere (like the zoo!), and I immediately start asking who else will be going. I'm fine so long as Mommy says she is "comin!"

I will keep trying to get Eowyn's absolutely adorable singing on "film." She sings "Jesus Loves Me," "Twinkle Twinkle," "AbCd" and "The Letter Sounds." She also fills in missing words in "There Were Ninety-and-Nine" (her favorite song) and "Cristo Me Ama, Yo Lo Se."

This is my favorite new hair style, and I ask Mommy for it almost every day. I insist upon a bow or a hat as well. My shoes remain a favorite pastime, and I enjoy trying each pair on in succession, often declaring "too big," "too tight," and "ahh, pretty!"

I had a grand old time with my grandparents (Poppy & Grams), Aunt Courtney, Uncle Nathan & great-grandparents Grandma & Grandpa Presley-- slept all night every night, played hard, went potty like a big girl, ate all my food (and a LOT of it!) and didn't cry once for mom & dad... but I sure was happy when they told me "We're getting Mommy & Daddy tonight!" I put down my fork and wanted to get my shoes on to go that very second. When I saw Mommy, I could hardly believe it! And Daddy. (And Nina. And GB. And Tia Anna.) I just kept saying Mommy & Daddy's names and my own the whole ride back from the airport, just because I could hardly believe we were all together again.

Mom & Dad took me to an "Old Fashioned Fourth" at the Peterson-Dumesil house again. I LOVED the inflatable slide (Daddy took me down), the watermelon, and some yummy roasted almonds. Mommy even let me have some lemon ice cream! It was nice and hot, like July the Fourth should be!

Mommy took me and some other friends to a farm to pick strawberries! I had a yummy lunch of cheese and fruit and ate as many strawberries as I could pick! Mom says she's making jam & pies, and she is freezing lots-- I just hope she leaves me some to eat now!
PS- in the picture you can see my newest favorite thing: a necklace! I once woke up crying for it in the night, and I just don't understand why being a 'strangulation hazard' means I can't sleep with one. At least I get to pick one out first thing every morning.

(Yes, her babies are rather odd-looking. She especially worries about that GI Joe, convinced he's always crying (because of his stern expression). So she walks around patting his back and comforting him all day. So funny and sweet!)

Easter Basket

Mama Szrama here-- This year we decided to start our own Easter traditions, since it's the first year E is actually old enough to care (at least a little bit). We decided to do a yearly Easter basket, with a new dress, new white dress shoes and a Christian book (or CD). No candy or toys, but things that would make the day special, and hopefully point them to Christ. We also wanted to capitalize on egg traditions, because eggs are such a great symbol of the resurrection as well as new life. Eowyn & I decorated eggs (oh that was an adventure), and we went to friends' who had a little Easter egg hunt. Next year we'll add in the Resurrection eggs (I may adapt it into an "Advent"-style calendar through Lent as well as Easter Story cookies. We really want to make this a big deal of a holiday, not about a bunny or sweets or even spring time, but about Christ's victory over the grave!!

So Eowyn received her shoes, dress and book- this year The Big Picture Story Bible(I'm super excited that it also included a CD recording of the whole book!)- as well as a purse from her great-grandparents and 2 Florida t-shirts from her Elder grandparents.

Mrs. Christy came over with her 2 girls and a friend's daughter (all under the age of 7) and we dyed our eggs, then glittered them. It was fun and Mommy said she was "way less intimidated doing them with a friend," whatever that means. I kept trying to smash two together but Mom didn't like that. She always cracks ours when she's making breakfast, so I don't understand. I also adored the glitter... but Mom wouldn't let me use nearly enough! Someday.

When I woke up from my nap, Mommy mentioned going to see my friends Magnus & Gunnar. I called out "Let's go!," went straight to the living room, climbed in my stroller (open from my walk this morning) and instructed "Push" the second Mommy popped into view. When she asked me where I thought I was going, I made myself very clear: Pa'k. Ma-ga. (translation: Park. Magnus.) I cried when Mommy tried to put me in the carseat instead-- I could see very clearly that there was NO MAGNUS in that car, and that the park was beckoning freedom the exact opposite direction. She assured me we would see Magnus, so I allowed myself to be buckled in. I kept reminding her of where we were going at every stop or turn. Finally, we stopped the car and THERE HE WAS. Oh yes, and Gu-ga (Gunnar) too. We ran all over the playground and our moms hardly got a chance to say a few words to each other. Serves them right, keeping us waiting so long.

The best part of these home videos (to me, that is) is all the laughing, joking and random familial chatter that goes on in the background, whether it's Derek asking me if I'll wear matching clothes with Eowyn, or Nicole telling Uncle Steve firmly that "this is family time; put that away," or my Dad lamenting that "the answer to Eowyn wanting is her having," or Ryan being absolutely goofy as usual. I'm so thankful we captured a good chunk of this evening on "film"! ...It's enough to make me want to get us a nice digital camcorder!

Daddy was gone for a whole week. Every morning I would look for him in bed and in his office, and would ask for him whenever we got in the house. Mama said he was gone to "Chicago," or "Ca-ga" as I would say. When I saw him I nearly jumped out of my carseat with delight, and then cuddled on his shoulder for a solid five minutes, saying "Oh, Daddy" over and over again.

As you can hopefully see despite Mom's poor quality of pictures (all she had was a camera phone), I LOVE girly things. I don't leave the house without a purse, and I know how to pack it with all the important things; a phone, a comb, a water cup, and books. I love wearing necklaces and talking on the phone. I love shoes and ask to wear them all the time. I admire Mama's earrings and love my own. Sometimes I hold up dangly earrings to my ears and look in the mirror. I know one day they will look so cool on me! (Mom edit: you know you have iPhones when your daughter thinks all mirrors are touch-screens and are therefore phones)

This dress was sewn by my mommy's great-grandmother (Mama Blanche) for her paternal grandmother (Mama Peggy)-- smocking done by Mama Peggy's aunt. It's in AMAZING shape! Everyone raves about how the blue "brings out my big blue eyes,"whatever that means. I just had fun clip-clopping in my dress shoes at this art museum type place. They didn't get me to stay still for long!

Birthday Bash, Part 2: The Cake

Note: this cake was actually her second birthday cake experience, having first celebrated with Elijah & Tia Nicole/Uncle Colin's family in Cary 3 days previously... so the cake wasn't so exciting this time around on a happily fed tummy. Oh well, WE enjoyed the "cake." *I didn't feel the need to fill her tiny body with refined sugar and grains (since she'd never had them before), so this cake is coconut-based (coconut-banana), with coconut cream & honey icing (oh yum!). I tried it out on our care group back home before making it for our families, and they really enjoyed it so I felt a little more confident. :)

(Mama writing here) Just found this heretofore unpublished gem from our family trip/Daddy work trip to Copenhagen, Denmark (photo taken by Ryan on August 24th, 2010-- she was nearly exactly 11 months old). I love how many aspects of Eowyn it captures: her radiant-smile friendly personality, her former love for her "pe-pe" (chupete), her big baby blues, her funny habit of stepping on top of anything she can (books, boxes, purses, hats... we're working on it).

Mom's haul: 3 all-wood puzzles (each $2 or $2.50), a set of wooden blocks ($2) in a wooden lidded box, and adorable pink-and-brown shoes ($2)! Success! I also picked up several "the Story of (Composer)" CDs for $1 each, a brand-new $1 diaper cover, "The Very Quiet Cricket" Board book in mint condition, a Baby Einstein Color Poetry board book, and a still-with-original-packaging little boy's Melissa & Doug puzzle ($3) that a certain little friend of ours will be getting as a gift. The only things that thwarted me were 2T training pants and a gear toy... but this was the first consignment sale of many so I'm not concerned!! :)

Mommy dressed me all in pink and red (and my purple boots she's so crazy about). She matched with me-- said we were Daddy's "Valentines." All I know is that Aunt Ashlea came over to read me skads of books while Mom & Dad went out. They seemed happy about it. I liked reading the books and I went to bed like a champ. I was so happy to see Mama when she came home, though. After she fed me and put me back in bed I just smiled at her and said very softly "Hi, Mama," and then went right back to sleep. Mama made me a book about all the people who love me, and how Jesus loves me even MORE! I like to look at all the pictures and I usually can tell who everyone is. I like names.

The Frozen Chosen

I love blueberries; especially out of the freezer. I eat them, I sort them, feed them one by one to Mommy, I get my face and hands all blue! Then I present them to Mommy to wipe clean, until next time.

(From the Mama Szrama: a tradition we'd like to have for our children is that they receive a new book & new pyjamas every Christmas Eve. So far, I've made Eowyn's from recycled clothing each year...we'll see how well I can keep that up as our little family grows. =D This year I made her a matching top & bottom from a pair of my own flannel PJ pants, which had steadily ripped up the bottom.

We had lunch at our friends the Aldriches' house. I love it there; they have toys and three boys who play very nicely with me, and a nice old doggy (dog-in) and two soft kitties ("ta-to!" aka gato). I did NOT like their new puppy, though. He is big and moves fast. Sometimes I just peek around the door at him and it reminds me of how scary he is and I start pouting.

I do like this warm new dress from Mama Peggy & Daddy Ron, though.

I cleaned up all by myself without anyone prompting me. Mom was in shock.

Ryan & I were fraternal twins (see the matching brown sweaters over white, with jeans?)...we even had matching shoes. And Eowyn was our M & M (if there's just one is it an 'M')? We handed out a few treats at our door, then went to Hillcrest Ave, which is FAMOUS for its crazy Halloween decorations. These guys go all out... orchestras in the front yard, paper mache, I mean it's nuts. We didn't go to trick or treat, but to hang out in front of a friends house where they were doing Christian rap full of the Gospel. We handed out some tracts and candy, and left near E's bedtime. Maybe next year we'll plan something a bit more fellowship & food oriented, but that was all we did this year. :) For someone who still isn't sure about this "holiday" I think it was quite enough.

Nina's First Night in Louisville

Nina (Mommy's mom) came to watch me while Mom went to some blogger's conference. We celebrated Nina's birthday, which we had missed, by going to our favorite Louisville restaurant, Ramsi's Cafe on the World.

I got Mom's nose in the bargain. :)

Or whatever you call someone who devours pacifiers. The above damage was done in a 15 minute drive between dinner and dessert. It was the 3rd pacifier in 2 days, and was followed by one more before we wised up and gave her only the single-piece-hard-plastic Soothie brand. She is significantly less attached to that type, but at least she can't chomp through it (and risk chocking on the latex flecks!)... and has actually progressed to not using a paci at night at all.

These two little clips are of Eowyn playing in our dining room. Pardon my modeling of the elephant noise right into the camera mic. =/ But you can see that she "gets" it and has added it to her bag of tricks! I'll have to shoot a better clip of her walking, too. She walks for long stretches, but her legs look like wobbly spaghetti the entire time!

St James Court Art Fair

You may remember our visit last year, with a nine-day old... This year it was chillier, sunnier, and just as fun! We got our yearly treats-- fudge for me, funnel cake for Ryan. We oohed and aahed over the different booths, especially the fairy tree houses you can see behind E & I in the stroller pic. Ryan bought me an amazingly cool bread knife, too! :)

Triple the Sugar, Triple the Spice

Several other moms at our church delivered beautiful girlies within 2 weeks of me. One had her own b'day party, but we had a triple event with Eliana, Eowyn & Grace. It didn't bode well, with a cold front and rain, but the Lord answered prayer, lifting the rain PRECISELY at 5:00, which was when the party began. We even got a little sun, and the rain ensured we had a nice big picnic shelter at a local park all to ourselves!

Blowing it out, with a little help from the moms (each mom made a cake or bunch of cupcakes for her daughter, and these were all shared). Eowyn had pumpkin-coconut spicecake! She liked it.
